Renovation

Gaisford Street

Innovating ways to create space and install energy-saving solutions make this family home in the heart of North West London warm, welcoming, and sociable.

Overview

Victorian properties often catch our eye – high-pitched roofs, bay windows, fireplaces in every room, and elaborate design details, are all features we admire. In London, many of these period properties are now apartments – this was the case for 78A Gaisford Street. We could easily see the potential for making this ground floor maisonette in the heart of North West London a hospitable family home. We knew exactly how we could help.

Challenge

A home should flow, be warm and inviting, with a sense of space. To get there, this maisonette needed help with dampness and insulation, work on the structure, a new kitchen, and an extension. The client required a fair amount of work with a modest budget, so we needed to work closely with the architect and structural engineers to stay within it.

Work

We worked closely with RUE Kitchens and the client to design the heart of the home, making it an enjoyable place to eat, meet, and relax. We opened up the space by removing the chimney breast and adding a curved wall from the hall to the kitchen. We insulated the floor and installed underfloor heating and a new boiler to make the area enticing, even on a cold morning. Aside from the kitchen, we also added a downstairs WC and increased space with a glass roof extension with doors that open up onto the garden.

Results

The kitchen is now a warm and comfortable place to entertain guests and enjoy time with the family. Underfloor heating and the new boiler make for an energy-efficient home, without the need to have the heating on for nine months out of the year. From the new rear doors to the parquet flooring, RUE’s Extension, Kitchen, and Maintenance services have created an appealing home with creative space-enhancing solutions. Gaisford Street is now a bright, welcoming, and spacious property perfectly suited to any family in the centre of London.
